Applications are invited for the position of Information and Administrative Assistant at the Australian Embassy, Paris. The position will be available from 5 March 2012.
The duty statement for the position is shown below.
Applications for the position should include:
• Letter of application (no more than 1 page)
• Resume
• Statement of claims against selection criteria (no more than 2 pages)
Your statement should focus on your achievements; identify how your experience, knowledge, skills/abilities, personal qualities and other qualifications help you meet the selection criteria. Please indicate specific examples of tasks or projects that you have undertaken problems you have solved or achievements relevant to the criteria and the duties. Provide a clear picture of your roles and responsibilities in the functions and tasks that you describe.
Incomplete applications or applications not meeting general requirements and selection criteria will not be considered.

Applicants wishing to work part-time (minimum 28 hours per week) will be considered. Duties would be adjusted accordingly.
Duty Statement:
Under the supervision of First Secretary (Policy/Public Diplomacy):
• Assist in developing programs for visiting Australian officials, including arranging appointments, and provide logistical support to major events and meetings
• Assist with translation of documents from English into French and proof-read material in French. Serve as back-up to the translator/interpreter
• Respond to public enquiries in the Embassy’s information service e-mail
• Maintain the Embassy’s website and provide other support to the Embassy’s IT manager
• Update and distribute the cultural newsletter and information and education kits; and maintain visitor packs, including information on France and Australia, for high-level visitors
• Perform other duties, as required
Selection criteria :
• For non-EU citizens a copy of a valid work permit/visa for long term employment in France is essential and must accompany the application. EU citizens must provide evidence of their citizenship
• Tertiary qualifications and at least 1-2 years in a similar position
• Fluency in French (preferably native) and a high level of written and spoken English are essential. Capacity to draft official documents and correspondence in French. Applicants may be required to undertake oral and written tests in English and French
• Knowledge of France and its political and bureaucratic system and some understanding of Australia and its interests in France
• Strong organisational skills, including the ability to manage and prioritise different work tasks and demands
• Ability to work in a team or independently
• High level IT skills. Applicants may be required to undertake a test to demonstrate these skills.
