ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR AUSTRALIAN PASSPORT APPLICATIONS – PC8 FORMS

Please allow ten (10) working days for the delivery of a full validity Australian passport upon receipt of all necessary documentation and requirements if you are picking up the passport in person.

If having the passport returned by mail, please allow up to five more working days.

OBTAINING APPLICATIONS FOR AN AUSTRALIAN PASSPORT OVERSEAS

Via Internet: Applications can be downloaded from www.passports.gov.au
In Person. Applications can be collected in person from the Consular Section during normal business hours,
By Mail. Applications forms will be sent by mail only if applicants themselves provide us with a stamped (1€30) self-addressed A4 sized envelope.

PERSONAL ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS The following applications MUST be lodged in person:

• First applications for a minor, which can be lodged by only one of the parents (The minor need not attend).

• Applications from adults who are applying for their first passport since turning 18.

• Applications for the replacement of a lost/stolen passport.

• Applications for the replacement of an Emergency Passport or Provisional Travel Document.

CHANGE OF NAME All original documentation justifying the change of name must be provided. Change of name by marriage for a national born in Australia can only be accepted if accompanied by an original certificate issued by a registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages in Australia. All foreign documents must be accompanied by an official translation in English.

ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION Previous passports should be presented for physical cancellation. For full details regarding the categories of documents please refer to the information on the PC8 application form.

PHOTOS This information should be read in conjunction with the instructions on the PC8 Form.

Please note that photos which do not correspond to the format described in the application form will not be accepted.

Photo Tips: If the applicant’s chest appears in the photo, the face is too small. Do not use photo booths as they produce a high rate of photo rejection. Australian Biometric Passport photo requirements are now standard for French passports. As such, most photographers are now familiar with current photo standards.

PAYMENT
Payment can only be accepted when lodging a completed application, and may be made by cash, French bank cheque, or postal order payable to the AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY. Payment by bank card is not accepted.

PASSPORT APPLICATIONS FOR MINORS

• Children under 18 must be issued with their own passports. (Inclusion on a parent's passport is not possible).

• In addition to other requirements, the child's original full birth certificate must be provided for both first applications and renewals. Foreign birth certificates must be accompanied by an official translation into English (or a “plurilingue” birth certificate issued free by the Mairie if the child was born in France).

• Both oral and written consent, duly witnessed, of all persons having custody, guardianship or access rights (see application form) is required.

• We will also need to sight the passports or identity cards of both parents.

• Witnesses to parents’ consent must not be related by blood or marriage to either parent or the child.

PASSPORT FEES

Current passport fees as of 01 September 2008 are: 

Adult 34 page Ordinary Passport: 122 euros
Minor (under 18 years): 61 euros
Senior (75 & over): 61 euros

Adult 66 page Frequent Traveller Passport: 183 euros
Minor (under 18 years): 92 euros
Senior (75 & over): 92 euros

Emergency Passport (4-pages only) Priority Processing Fee: 46 euros (not available for normal passports)


Lost & Stolen Passport Charges
1 passport in 5 years: 41 euros
2 passports in 5 years: 121 euros
3 passports in 5 years: 244euros


GUARANTORS These may be Australian citizens who are over 18, not related to or living with the applicant, and who hold a current full validity Australian passport, or any non-Australian professional from the following categories:

Doctors of Medicine; Dentists; Pharmacists; Registered Nurses; Certified Accountants; Barristers, Solicitors or Lawyers; Chartered Engineers; Judges of the Court; Police Officers; Civil Servants; Members of the Armed Forces (minimum 5 years continuous service); full-time teachers (minimum 5 years continuous service).

COLLECTING YOUR PASSPORT IN PERSON Once a passport has been produced, it will be kept at the embassy for 60 days. If not claimed after 60 days, the passport will be destroyed and the applicant will have to re-apply for a passport, providing full payment and identification details.

POSTAGE FOR RETURN OF PASSPORT BY MAIL Please note that if you wish to have your new passport and your original citizenship and identity documents returned to you by mail, you must enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope either for registered mail or Chronopost. We cannot return passports via ordinary mail.

EMERGENCY PASSPORTS: Emergency passports are issued in genuine cases of emergency only, such as urgent travel following the recent theft of an Australian passport.

Document lost/stolen fees will be applied in addition to the priority processing fee.

Personal attendance is required for the issuing of an emergency passport, which takes two working days.

ADULT RENEWAL OF A FULL VALIDITY PASSPORT If you hold a full validity adult passport that is currently valid or that has not been expired for more than 12 months, then you may qualify for the simplified PC7 form: Australian Passport Renewal Application.

This form dispenses with the need to provide a guarantor or supplementary identification
