RESEARCH OFFICER, AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY
Gross Monthly Salary € 2634.52 * 13 months
Applications are invited from persons interested in the position of Research Officer at the Australian Embassy, Paris.

The position is full-time (35 hours per week) and will be available early January 2012.

Your statement should focus on your achievements; identify how your experience, knowledge, skills/abilities, personal qualities and other qualifications help you meet the selection criteria. Please indicate specific examples of tasks or projects that you have undertaken, problems you have solved or achievements relevant to the criteria and the duties. Provide a clear picture of your roles and responsibilities in the functions and tasks that you describe. This will also demonstrate your written skills and your ability to communicate succinctly and effectively.

Duty Statement
1. Maintain a database of biographies of key figures in France and other countries of accreditation; prepare new biographies as required;
2. Monitor and report on developments in other countries of accreditation (Morocco, Algeria and Mauritania), including through media and government websites; assist in the development of bilateral relations with those countries;
3. Liaise with French judicial authorities over requests for mutual assistance in legal matters from the Australian Government; draft Third Person Notes; follow up cases as required;
4. Organise visit programs for Australian parliamentarians and officials including making appointments; arranging logistics and accompanying visitors as required; as part of a team, assist with Ministerial visits;
5. Translate documents from French into English. Prepare correspondence in English and French as required;
6. Attend conferences and seminars, as required, and report outcomes; support the development of Embassy’s relations with think tanks and research institutions through maintaining a database of contacts;
7. Other duties as required.
General requirements
• Applicants must be Australian nationals and eligible for an Australian Government security clearance. Persons holding dual French nationality are ineligible for a security clearance for this position.
• Applicants must submit a copy of a valid work permit/visa for employment in France. Applications that do not specifically address and satisfy this requirement will not be considered.
• Fluency in English and French (oral and written) is essential. Applicants being considered for the position may be required to undertake, and if so pass at a high level, oral and written tests in English and French.
• High level skills in use of IT applications and internet are essential. Applicants being considered for the position may be required to undertake a test to demonstrate their capacity to use such software.
