Note: Australian passports and travel to Australia
Once a person becomes an Australian citizen, he/she is eligible to apply for an Australian passport.
Australian citizens entering Australia should do so on an Australian passport.
Please note that it is not possible for an Australian citizen to be granted an Australian visa even if that person is also a citizen of another country and wishes to travel on that country’s passport.

Citizenship by descent
A person born outside Australia who is the natural child of an Australian parent acquire Australian citizenship by descent.
A person becomes a citizen on the date he/she is registered as a citizen by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).
NEWS:
From 1 July 2009, all citizenship by descent applications for Metropolitan France (NOT the French DOMs or TOMs), Belgium, Luxembourg, the Principalities of Monaco and Andorra will be processed at the Australian High Commission in London.
Application for a certificate of Evidence of Australian citizenship
Any Australian citizen can apply for a certificate of Australian citizenship if they want documentary evidence of their citizenship. If you are not sure whether you are an Australian citizen consult www.citizenship.gov.au to determine your citizenship status.
Declaration of desire to resume Australian citizenship
A person can lose Australian citizenship by:
* acquiring the citizenship of another country; or
* renouncing Australian citizenship; or
* being deprived of Australian citizenship.
Grant of a child adopted overseas
Children adopted outside of Australia by an Australian citizen may apply for grant of citizenship if they are already in possession of a valid permanent residency visa.

NOTE:
Applications for resumption or renunciation of Australian citizenship, or for a certificate of evidence of Australian citizenship or resident status can be lodged at the Australian Embassy Paris, but will be forwarded to Australia for processing.
