CERTIFICATE OF NO IMPEDIMENT TO MARRIAGE
An Australian Citizen who requires a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage (Certificat de coutume ou de non-opposition au mariage) in order to marry at a French Town Hall (Mairie) will need to provide the Australian Embassy in PARIS the following Items :
- The Application - certificate of no Impediment to Marriage. ( the document can be downloaded from our site).
The details should be completed by both partners. However it is only the Australian Citizen who needs to sign the form. The signature can be witnessed by a consular officer at any Australian Embassy or in person at the Australian Embassy in Paris or by a DFAT officer in Australia, or a public notary.
-The Documentation required from the Australian National : Original Australian Passport (or Certified copy) & Birth Certificate (Original or Photo copy).
- The Documentation required from the Other National : Original (or photocopy) of Birth Certificate
- The Administration Fee of 72 euros for each certificate (if two Australian citizens marrying in France, two fees are applicable). The fee is to paid in cash or by cheque at the counter at the Australian Embassy in Paris or by cheque or money order, both drawn from a french bank, made out to « The Australian Embassy'' if sent by mail. No credit card accepted. You will be provided with a receipt.
- A Stamped envelope with your FRENCH street address to return the CNI to you.
Estimated turn-around time of 48 Hours for processing.
Under French Law THE CERTIFICATE (which is produced in FRENCH by the Australian Embassy in Paris) is valid for only 90 days after the date of issue.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT PUBLISH THE BANS FOR A MARRIAGE IN FRANCE AND ARE UNABLE TO ISSUE A "CERTIFICAT DE CELIBAT" MENTIONING A PERSON'S MARITAL STATUS. PLEASE REQUEST A NO RECORD OF MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE FROM YOUR STATE REGISTRAR OF BIRTHS, DEATHS AND MARRIAGES .
