Business (Short Stay) Visas - Visiting for less than 3 months for Business Purposes

The Short Stay Business visa allows business people to make a short business visit to Australia for up to three months. Business activities may include a conference, negotiation or exploratory business visit, but do not include acting, musical performances or commercial film making.

This visa does not allow you to work except in very limited circumstances. The work must be urgent, very short term and highly specialised.

You must not undertake work that can be done by an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and you cannot take an ongoing position for longer than three months.

If your main reason for coming to Australia is to work, you should consider applying for a Business (Long Stay) visa or other appropriate visa options.

Electronic Visas

 Some applicants who hold passports of certain countries may submit their application electronically on the website of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship in Australia.

Paper Applications

If you are unable or ineligible to apply for an electronic visa, you will need to lodge a paper Tourist visa application by sending the following documents to the Australian Embassy Paris.

Please attach to your application one recent passport photograph of yourself (and all family members included in the application)

Original passport
*If you will need your original passport while your application is being processed, you may first send a photocopy - we will then ask you for your passport if the visa application is granted.

Visa Application Charge
Non-reimbursable processing fee payable by cheque to the order of the Australian Embassy; (refer to the latest charges on form 990i
Business visa applicants may also pay by credit card. Please complete the relevant section on the application form 456.

Additional documents

 If you are not a French/Belgian national, evidence of your residence status in France/Belgium (residence card etc.) which should be valid to allow you to return to France/Belgium after your stay in Australia.

 Evidence that your business background is relevant to the proposed business in Australia, eg. letter of invitation, conference registration details, letter from your employer detailing the reasons for your visit.

 Letter from your employer/business contact in Australia confirming travel and accommodation expenses will be met ;
OR
 Evidence that you have adequate funds for your personal support during your stay in Australia eg. bank statements, letter from your financial institution concerning your financial support.

Applications by mail

If you are applying by mail, please note the following:

IF YOU ARE RESIDENT IN FRANCE - Please also enclose a self-addressed envelope with 3.68 Euros postage together with a form 'Preuve de depot SANS avis de réception' obtained from the post office.
If you would like to have your passport returned by Chronopost, please enclose a pre-paid Chronopost envelope.
IF YOU ARE RESIDENT OUTSIDE FRANCE - Please also enclose a self-addressed envelope with 7 International Response Coupons, purchased at the post office, to cover postal costs.
EXPRESS COURIER - If you would like to have your passport returned to you by express courier, once a decision has been made on your application you must organise the passport collection with the courier at your own expense and inform us when the passport will be collected (passports can be collected between 9h30 and 12h30 or 14h00 and 17h00 from Monday to Friday, except Bank Holidays).
