From 1 July 2007, there will be a number of legislative changes regarding citizenship by descent, by grant and by resumption.
The following citizenship applications may be lodged in the Paris office:
Citizenship by descent
Those eligible for citizenship by descent must have been born outside of Australia and be the natural child of an Australian citizen.
Application for a certificate of Evidence of Australian citizenship
Any Australian citizen can apply for a certificate of Australian citizenship if they want documentary evidence of their citizenship. If you are not sure whether you are an Australian citizen consult http://www.citizenship.gov.au/ to determine your citizenship status.
Declaration of desire to resume Australian citizenship
A person can lose Australian citizenship by:
* acquiring the citizenship of another country; or
* renouncing Australian citizenship; or
* being deprived of Australian citizenship.
Grant of a child adopted overseas
Children adopted outside of Australia by an Ausralian citizen may apply for grant of citizenship if they are already in possession of a valid permanent residency visa.
